Remodeling the Emerging Professional Committee

We have bittersweet news about the SPNHC Emerging Professional Committee. After much deliberation and some need to re-organize some of the SPNHC leadership, we have decided to merge this committee with the SPNHC Professional Development Committee. As of 30 Jan 2024, the committees formerly known as the Emerging Professionals Committee and the Professional Development Committee will now be called the SPNHC Networking and Career Development Committee (NCDC). The creation of this new committee was approved by the SPNHC Council in a unanimous vote.

The mission of the Networking and Career Development Committee is to connect individuals from a variety of disciplines and overall experiences working with natural history collections. The committee focuses to expand awareness and involvement from all levels of professionals and students into the Society for Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC).

A primary focus of the committee will be the development and execution of a mentor-mentee program. This program will introduce early career professionals and students to established professionals who have shared interests at the annual conference. With the efforts of this committee, we encourage these relationships to continue after the conference has ended.

This committee will be led by three co-chairs. These positions include Publicity, Conference, and Professional Development Co-Chairs. Jessie and Kevin from the former Emerging Professional Committee will step in to serve as two of the co-chairs, but as of the date of this post, they are looking for another co-chair to serve with them. Please reach out to either Kevin or Jessie by 31 Mar 2024 if you are interested in serving as a leader of this committee.

We will plan to update this blog periodically, but for more current information about the committee, you can find us on the SPNHC website as well as our Facebook page and Instagram.
